Our team at Flextron checked in with Robin Lim, Director of Vision Display on how things have evolved ever since the acquirement of three Summa Flatbed Cutter Machines. (Summa F Series)

What were the challenges you faced prior to the investments of not 1 but 3 flatbeds from Summa?
Robin: Previously, we didn’t have enough space for the flatbeds but we have re-organized the space since then and it was one of the best decisions ever. Because of its automotive productions, manual labor is greatly reduced. Instead of engaging carpenters to do intricate designs for our customers, Summa was able to replace some of the carpentry work and helped us to reduce cost too.
It is also easy to hire and teach operators as the system is relatively straightforward. The accuracy and quality of the work are also assured. What’s even better is that it brought in NEW business avenues when it comes to packaging, POP, and so on.
We started with 2 S2TC Summa roll cutters and I’m really glad to invest in 3 more flatbeds.
What changes have you seen in your team’s productivity after the investment of the flatbed cutters?
Robin: We cut down a lot of cost on labor and also because the cut-out products by the machines are precise and really quick, that helped us to increase my staffs’ productivity. We used to operate 12-14 hours a couple of days in a row before submitting and installing for a job or a project. Now, with the new machines, we are able to reduce the working hours of the staffs and increase efficiency.
Though it required some time for my staff to get used to the workflow, it’s a good exchange since my staff does not need to work overtime too often. The GoProduce software is also very easy to use.
